Influenced by her years attending the Iowa Writer’s Workshop, Angela’s portfolio includes poetry, short stories, and nonfiction work.
As a young woman, Angela formed White Lion Productions, a company where she served as creative director for large shows in the Raleigh, North Carolina area like Night of Dreams. During this period she was lead choreographer for multiple theatrical productions and children’s workshops at Raleigh Little Theatre, while also producing nightclub shows where her modern dance & hip hop fusion company performed original work. Angela’s talents extended to fashion shows for well known brand, Harley Davidson. Angela began print and runway modeling through Marilyn’s Model & Talent Agency and then took on a role as a regional marketing director for promotional events featuring brands like Jose Cuervo, Joe Boxer, and Schick Razors. Angela continued to write poetry, performing live at poetry jams. Her spoken word song, Place and Time, included in a compilation album, Ghetto Prince Productions: Puttin It Down For Your Town, was received well in Europe.
Refocusing on motherhood and providing for a young family, Angela began a new life in the Midwest in 2006. She earned her JD from Drake University Law School in 2010, and built a career in Iowa as a government relations attorney where she worked on complex policy solutions for public and private interests. Initially working on legislative issues for state government, she served as Staff Attorney for the Iowa Secretary of State. There she was Project Manager of the new Mechanics’ Notice & Lien Registry, making Iowa the second state in the country to convert subcontractor notices and liens to online database system in response to the 2008 financial crisis. She was promoted to Legal Counsel for the Iowa Secretary of State, then transitioned to the private sector where she worked on a variety of issues for multi-million dollar corporate clients. In 2017, Angela left corporate work to start her own business where she focused on social policy issues like human trafficking prevention and water quality.
Angela began working creatively again after being introduced to a Hollywood film group associated with Geena Davis’ Bentonville Film Festival. In 2019, Angela produced Breakthroughs, a fashion show and commentary. The work celebrated iconic historical achievements of African American women in film and featured original designs by Linda Rowe Thomas. The show included thoughtful in-person commentary from Michelle Ebanks, President and CEO of Essence Communications, the nation’s leading media and communications company dedicated to African American women, including Essence magazine. Following the success of Breakthroughs, Angela developed a television concept honoring the life of opera legend, Delcina Stevenson. This series is in pre-production at Gaumont International Television’s Los Angeles studio.
